July 21-25, Rising 6th & 7th Graders
Time: 9:00 a.m.-- 2:00 p.m.                Cost: $200

What’s your learning style? What are your passions? Campers will start their days taking inventory their learning preferences and then graphing them. By discovering the ways that they prefer to learn, campers can better advocate for themselves. Understanding your learning style allows you to make the most of your education and reduce the time and energy you spend on unproductive strategies. Participants will be introduced to strategies for reading and comprehending narrative and expository texts, paraphrasing, note taking, outlining, and test taking. The notebook that a student creates during the week will be his/hers to take home for use during the upcoming academic year.

Afternoons will be reserved for creating your own Utopia by applying your learning style and effective-for-you strategies. We'll use the book Treasure Island and the movie version of Swiss Family Robinson for background. Having taught reading, English, speech and drama for thirty-six years, instructor Trish McRae has years of experience helping students and adults understand the ways they learn.  She currently coordinates services for older students with learning differences and teaches study skills at Summit.
