3/4 & 6 Bye, Bye Birdie

Kathi Appelt, an award-winning author, poet, and teacher, will be visiting Summit School on April 2 & 3. After a brief beginning in North Carolina, Kathi grew up in Houston and now lives in College Station, Texas.  In addition to writing for children and young adults, Mrs. Appelt teaches creative writing at Texas A&M University and Vermont College. She lectures, and conducts workshops and seminars throughout the country, providing her expertise to others wanting to become children’s book authors. Visiting schools is another part of her work that she enjoys, helping her “keep in touch with her young audience.” Kathi welcomes parents to her programs. To read more about her, visit www.kathiappelt.com.

Kathi Appelt believes that we all have stories to tell and “the best writing comes from the people, places, pets, and objects that surround us.” Among her stories are the charming and humorous books about Bubba and Beau, a baby and puppy who are best friends. Her admiration for fellow Texan Lady Bird Johnson led to a biography about the former first lady and her work in the preservation of wildflowers and the beautification of our nation’s highways.

We have some books available for purchase and signing by the author. Click here to download a PDF with titles and prices. To order a book, please fill out this form (click to download), indicate the inscription (“For Anne”) and return it with a check made out to Summit School by April 3.
