Community Service

Community service is encouraged across all divisions and is part of the Junior High curriculum. The Junior High Executive Council sponsors service activities for the Junior High throughout the year. Service hours are required at each grade level. Seventh graders must complete six hours, eighth graders must complete nine hours, and ninth graders must complete twelve hours as part of the Life/SCALE (Summit Career and Leadership Experience) program. Meeting these requirements qualifies seventh and eighth graders for school service recognition.  Ninth graders must have an additional six hours to qualify for school service recognition.  As part of leadership training, ninth graders organize and advertise all service projects. Projects for 2006-2007 help the school community, are fundraisers, or are interactive projects that work directly with people in the community:

  • Heart Walk
  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
  • Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
  • Barnes and Noble Book Fair
  • Car Wash
  • Brighton Gardens Bingo
  • Salemtowne Holiday Party
  • SCAN Holiday Gift Drive
  • Ronald McDonald Luminary Project
  • May Frolics
  • Kids’ Café
  • Basketball Tournament
  • Campus Clean-up
  • Festival of Trees
  • Gift Wrap Help
  • Irish Festival
  • Walk to Remember

During the 2006-2007 school year, Junior High students documented over 1500 hours of community service and raised $10,000 for charitable causes.
