Summit BandWorldwide research and longterm studies at universities and private institutions continue to show that the study of a musical instrument improves a child's ability to reason, focus and comprehend in all other disciplines. The social and interactive skills that are instilled through band classes are recognized as being a positive force in child development. Beginning in third grade, Summit students have the opportunity to be part of the Summit Band. Students can choose to study trumpet, flute or clarinet. They receive instruction twice weekly on campus in the screening room. Musical styles range from Classical to Folk to Jazz. Junior High students explore a more in-depth study in the Chamber Music program and perform difficult works with great success. The Summit Band is led by Patrick Tucker. Since it is an extracurricular program, it is available at a nominal fee at the beginning of each semester. |
