The goal of Summit's counseling program is to support the development of skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to become effective learners, productive citizens, and respectful, responsible members of our community. Students will use their academic skills and experiences, their personal qualities and information of the world around them to set and accomplish goals and to make wise decisions.

Our curriculum is adapted from Creating Classrooms and Homes of Virtue by Margaret Walding. As is the case in the elementary and middle schools, the daily lessons will be built around exploring the specific virtue of the month. The virtues for the 2006-2007 school year are as follows:

August/September = Tolerance
October = Forgiveness
November = Humility
December = Reverence
January = Justice
February = Loyalty
March = Perseverance
April = Stewardship
May = Peacefulness

We seek to establish counseling as an integral part of student life at Summit. To accomplish this goal, there are many opportunities provided for Summit students to access counseling services. These can include classroom guidance during activity periods, small group activities (new student groups, children of divorce groups, social skills groups, and others), or a student can come to the counseling office for individual help as needed.

To find out more about the services and skills that the counseling office brings to Summit School, or if you have a concern about your child, please do not hesitate to call or email us. This is going to be a great year and we look forward to partnering with you and your children.
