| 5th Grade | 8th Grade Pottery Welcome to 8th grade Pottery. Students use a conscious approach to making pottery by choosing themes. They use the slab and coil methods to create decorative and functional pottery. Visual and motor skills are used to develop projects that are assembled, three dimensional, and can be used as containers. It is vital that students understand the nature of the clay and use critical and independent thinking while creating projects that have creative and challenging handles, spouts, lids and feet. Clay selection, wedging, firing temperatures, hardness, texture, plasticity, shrinkage and warping must also be taken into consideration while developing this skill.
